Welcome

Hi, welcome to Sasha's educational technology training blog. Please feel free to place your comments.

The unknown is a terrifying thing, the weeks leading up to our first day of class has had me quite anxious. Being in the classroom again after quite some time is very intimating. So I was freaking out inside although no one would have ever suspected that (chuckle). Getting to know my lecturers and classmates was a blast also since i find each one interesting to say the least. I have made some new connections with some of my classmates and is hoping to make more life long friendships as we journey through this course.

Now that i have met the facilitators and my fellow teachers am not in that state of mind at all rather am saying to myself, 'what were you fearful of?'. For the most part I love all of my facilitators; each has their own style and teaching attitude, which is understandable. Most are down to Earth and add an extra ease to the situation for me personally. Classes are fun and not boring which is saying a lot coming from me since I get bored very easily. Learning about the methods and skill that will equip me for my future in teaching is the most exciting aspect of it all for me. Now each class is unique in its own right but all seem to be linked which explains the entire purpose of the course.

it was refreshing to revise some of the knowledge that was logged way back in the lost regions of my brain about verbs and terms of speaking. As teachers we usually believe that whatever we say or do is correct. Little did I know!  Communications class reminded me that we are all humans and the students look up to us as role model to know and do the right so even in speech and conversation we should try to correct our grammar. I learnt that one needs at least body language in order to communicate with others. Language is a continuum which makes perfect sense since it is always changing; words that we as students in the past were told we not acceptable are now in the dictionary and are quite popularly used, e.g. moneys and bling.

For me the creating of blog is a highlight of my classes since i have always wanted to do my own, so coodles to Mrs. Roberts for showing this aspect of my learning even though i have not conquered it as yet. Learning about the different types of media was refreshing since i did not that i myself was a source. the different learning styles explains its all for me in terms of student learners and trying to achieve the goal of having all the students grasp the information that you are trying to deliver.

KWL chart is a goal setting diagram and i believe is what has been missing in my life. Once i can set clear goal, work towards them and monitor my progress in all my aims to achieve that goal is golden. Oh, oh, i thin i just explained the social cognitive behavioral theory. I think!

I love organizing and arranging these power point presentations. While preparing this aspect of my homework i got to read more about learning, in that it takes motivation in order for one to learn especially in reference to intentional learning. the styles of learning are dead on as i reflect on my classroom of students and pitfalls we have had, i used to just wonder why they did not get it and if something was wrong with these children. i was teaching at them and in the way i thought was the best and that they should have grasp the message since in my head it was straightforward. Now i get it!

Becoming more familiar with the different stages of an individual and how each stage has a characterized behavior is wonderful, for me to get a better understanding of how we can increase learning in our learners at the different level of life is immensely invigorating. To be able to aid in the development of my students with better knowledge of how to get through to them so as equip them with the necessary resources which they require to venture into the real World is paramount. Brain-storming about the trials of a young person growing in this day and age is eye-opening and gives a greater sense of why they behave the way that they do. Understanding their developmental changes and mannerisms are key to us acknowledging what we a guides need to overcome and know.

'The nature of a thing determines the purpose of a thing'

I also did something that i have never done which was performing in a role playing drama which and it was amazing since my classmates expressed how they loved it. We were placed in groups and each group had to act out a scenario which explained a stage in an adolescents life and in turn was recorded by the facilitator. My team comprised of three other ladies in the class and we pulled it off really well if i might say so myself. All of the other performances had me cracking up and they were spot on. Good job guys. Great Fun!
